AD HOC Committee Formed to Explore and Advocate an Open and Uniform Candidate Selection Process for the Republican Party of Minnesota.

This is an educational effort and our hope and expectation is that you will take this as a baton and run with it.  If you have any questions, suggestions or would like to be a part of this effort or a spokesman for same, please contact any names listed at the website.

You and or the organizations that you belong to may want to, and are encouraged to, add this to the efforts you are now pursuing.  This could be another key/vital arrow in the quiver for victory, so to speak.  The document is as follows:

  1. What would it do?

    1. It would give the delegates at convention a real opportunity to select a candidate at the nominating convention(s).

    2. It would provide a real and clear opportunity to select from a field of candidates, including incumbent(s) and nominations from the convention floor.  Nominations from the floor are not required to go before the nominating committee.

    3. It would allow the convention to properly access and determine the best candidate (upon hearing them all) to represent the party.  Thus we would offer the best candidate (and hopefully the most electable) to the public.

    4. The nominating Committee’s report to the convention will list all candidates (Yea or Nay) who come before said committee.  The convention at large will make the final determination in public assembly.  Each candidate going before the nominating committee may have one advocate with him/her.

  2. What would it look like?

    1. The party organization would provide each candidate with at least one person as a liaison.  This person would help guide the candidate through the process with help such as schedules, where to be, who to see, etc.

    2.  The party is tasked to support and work with all levels of candidates to produce the most electable candidate(s) whether incumbent or not.

    3. The party’s obligation is to create conventions are shaped to give the elected delegates the proper information and direction to make an informed decision.  The elected delegate’s responsibility is to make the best possible decision on nominees so that the public is presented an electable candidate.  (Regarding winning, that is the nature of any contest, so let’s select candidates that we will be happy with – win or lose.)

    4. The counting of ballots will be done by those with no vested interest in the outcome, with transparency, supervision, in public and by people representing all the districts.  Candidates will be notified beforehand as to counting procedures and counting will not begin until all candidate observers are present.

    5. District Chairs and hierarchy and Chairs and hierarchy at other levels will make sure that all candidates, whether incumbent or testing-the-waters candidates are recognized and allowed to speak at various meetings and conventions.

    6. Endorsement votes will be taken only at endorsing conventions.  All other interest or preference votes will be straw ballots.
